We all have times in our lives when we feel that we simply cannot give anymore. We may feel fatigued, we may feel depressed and we may feel anxious. Many people will wait and wait until they are at their very own breaking point before they seek help from a professional. Which often means that they will end up being recommended to take a variety of medicines in order to help with their issues, and I’ve had my own.
However, this approach isn’t suited to everyone and, sometimes, you can improve your mental wellbeing with other routes. Such as talking therapies. Talking therapies, such as counselling, are designed to be an alternative way to approach any problems that you may have; but why are they so effective and why are they something that you should think about trying for yourself.
It helps you to see things from the outside
When you are in the moment, it can be very hard to see the experience that you are having and the situation that you find yourself in, any other way. You may even try to speak to those who are closest to you, although, they are often just as involved as you. When you speak to a counsellor, you will be discussing your issues with someone who is outside of the entire situation. They will see it from a different perspective to what you may and they will help you to see it this way too.
It is a release
Another great reason for trying out talking therapies is because it is somewhat of a release for you. It allows you to speak about how you feel, freely and this can be a huge release for you and for all those pent-up emotions that you may be feeling. Bottling things up is never a good idea for anyone to do, so, if you can find a way to release those feelings and to give yourself some space to breathe, then this will really help you to get through those issues.
You are free to feel any way you like
Many mental health issues come with a sense of guilt. There is guilt that you feel the way that you do and guilt that you shouldn’t be so focused on your own emotions and feelings. You may worry about telling those closest to you because they may judge you; however, you are free to feel any way that you like. Speaking to a counsellor means that you can feel all those feelings and you don’t have to worry that anyone would be judging you.
